He describes it as "an essay on the mystery of fire" touching upon its role in initiation, alchemy, ancient Egyptian initiates, Rosicrucianism, the Knights of the Grail, etc. Hall himself wrote over a hundred books and pamphlets on the esoteric subjects. which became part of the library of an organisation the Philosophical Research Society which he founded in 1934. Manly Palmer Hall (1901 - 1990), was a Canadian-born occultist, mystic and author best known for his "The Secret Teaching of All Ages."
